America Makes Announces Two Separate and Distinct AM Directed Project Opportunities

America Makes has just announced two separate and distinct additive manufacturing (AM) Directed Project Opportunities, funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), that are available for all members. America Makes and AFRL are targeting to make available approximately $1.6M to fund two awards with at least $800K in matching funds from the awarded project teams for total funding worth roughly $2.4M. As with all America Makes project calls, the technical requirements of the project opportunities directly relates to the America Makes Technology Roadmap, which identifies measurable and meaningful challenges that, when met, promote inquiry, knowledge-sharing, and technical advancements across the AM industry. The project calls are as follows:

1. Acceleration of Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (ALSAM): The objective of this opportunity is to overcome known and distinct limitations of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) additive manufacturing (AM) that have thus far curbed wider adoption of the technology for production. There is a webinar at 1 PM EDT on July 25 and the deadline for this project call is September 28, 2018. Click here for the formal ALSAM announcement from America Makes. Submissions must be e-mailed to projectcall@americamakes.us with “America Makes ALSAM PROJECT PROPOSAL” as the Subject line.

2. Advancing AM Post-Processing Techniques (AAPT): The object of this second project call is to gain better perspective and understanding of available post-processing techniques to achieve qualified parts and certified processes while reducing costs. This opportunity also have a webinar on July 25, though at 2:30 PM EDT. The phase 1 deadline is August 24 and phase 2 deadline is October 12, 2018.
