Hosted By: Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)

Location: The Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University

Cyber-physical sensing explores sensing the induced effects from the physical world through the cyber domain. The effect only exists as a product of cybersystems and their interactions. This includes phenomena transmitted through cyber-physical devices and the interconnected data networks to infer information through effects such as digital noise, bit errors, or latencies.

By taking advantage of abundant measurement sources from proliferated devices and sensors, this provides a cost-effective advantage to designing more measurement stations or sensors. The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL’s) Multi-Domain Sensing Effects & Analysis Branch is spearheading this effort to achieve the following mission:

  • Deliver strategic multi-sensor exploitation performance effects understanding – to dominate our adversaries – across all domains via empirically collected data, assessment, modeling, and analysis.
  • Develop and transition revolutionary, multi-INT data processing architectures for both R&D and operational users.
  • Promote comprehensive understanding of sensing effects for multi-domain systems via development planning and experimentation.
