Is there information regarding requirements for LED components in aircraft display panels?

DSIAC was asked for any information regarding light-emitting diode (LED) component requirements for aircraft display panels as a follow-up to the technical inquiry on “Aircraft Display Panel Light Emitting Diode (LED) Item Specifications.”  A DSIAC subject matter expert who is directly familiar with this and has experience using the pertinent military specification MIL-DTL-7788, which the Defense Logistics Agency is attempting to revise, used his knowledge and further research to integrate new findings and recommendations into the previous TI response report.  The updated findings provided the following:  information on using incandescent lamp dimming (as a baseline) and voltage-based and pulse-width modulation-based methods for LED dimming, a discussion of LED variability vs. manufacturer source and lots, and recommendations for changes to MIL-DTL-7788.
