ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Maryland — The Defense Department”s push to develop leap ahead technology known as the “third offset strategy” must include ground forces, an Army official said Aug. 3.
The third offset strategy calls for the development of cutting edge technologies in various fields that will give the services battlefield advantages. Many of the technologies surrounding the new push involve anti-access, area denial scenarios, which lend themselves to Air Force and Navy programs.
Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Katrina McFarland, argued that the Army has a piece of this movement.
The categories in the strategy include: Autonomy, human systems and cognition, big data, quantum sciences and hypersonics. The Army community fits into each of those five categories, she said at the National Defense Industrial Association”s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Conference.
